Beautiful Yosemite

Those of you who read our blog know that backpacking is our other true passion. We’ve been trying to do as much as possible of it this year instead of spending our entire lives in front of a computer screen! We are lucky enough to live near Yosemite National Park and the surrounding wilderness areas of the Sierra Nevada, so we can indulge this passion with some regularity. So, we took a couple of days to get out of the summer heat in Vegas this past week to indulge ourselves in the wildlands of Yosemite. We went up the Illouette Creek drainage, over Red Peak Pass and down through the Merced River drainage. It was great getting up into snow this late in August. Just beautiful!

  1. We sometimes get discouraged, chomping on all that glucosamine so our hips & knees don’t ache the whole trip, but we were very encouraged that we were among the YOUNGEST people we saw in the backcountry this trip. We met several very energetic couples well into their 70’s (or more) who were deep in the backcountry. So hopefully we will be able to pursue this passion for many years to come!

  2. How I envy you. I used to do a lot of backpacking and climbing but, alas, the old knees won’t allow it anymore.
